Abstract

Autoimmune demyelinating disorders of peripheral and central nervous system are common but coexistent central and peripheral nervous system demyelination is rarely reported in children. Despite supposedly similar pathophysiology, single treatment does not work for both conditions. Here we report a child who developed Guillain-Barre syndrome and transverse myelitis following mumps and was managed successfully.

Abstract

Background: Substituted dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers are used in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Dihydropyridines are considered as analogue of dihydropyrimidines.

Objectives: In present study newly synthesized test compound 5- Acyl-6-methyl-4(2',3'-methylenedioxy) phenyl - 2 - S - ethyl - 1, 4- dihydropyrimidine, a dihydropyrimidine derivative was investigated with an aim to get valuable substitute for the well known dihydropyridine, Nifedipine.

Material & Methods: The Calcium Channel blocking actiuity of test compound was studied on Rabbit's Heart and its effects were compared with Nifedipine used as control.

Results: Test compound has dose-dependent negative chronotropic and negative inotropic effect on Rabbit's heart but these effects appeared at doses higher than those of Nifedipine. Test compound had no significant change in coronary flow however Nifedipine show significant increase in coronary flow at lower doses.

Conclusion: Test compound appears to be less potent myocardial depressant compared to Nifedipine. Test compound produced calcium channel blocking activity which was dose related and in order to ascertain the status of this compound as a drug, further studies are needed not only in other animals and tissue models but also in various pathophysiological models.

Abstract

The use of drugs to increase human happiness and to improve the quality of life physically, mentally and socioeconomically is a serious matter of concern. Chronic disabling conditions become common in old age and affect the quality of life. Quality of life (QOL) is an important measure of health care, which measures the gap between expectations and achievements. Effect of Drug use on quality of life in elderly Indian population with hypertension was studied using Mc Master Health Index. The study population was divided into test group (hypertensive patients on regular treatment) and control group (Not on any treatment or on treatment for less than 3 months). All three parameters of QOL namely physical, emotional and social were studied using Mc Master Health Index questionnaire. The results were statistically compared using ANOVA and chi square. Our results point toward better overall QOL in patients on regular treatment.

Abstract

In Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANET) routing and network management are cooperatively done by mobile nodes. Many routing protocol are based on trust model to exchange information between neighbors. Such a characteristic makes nodes in MANET vulnerable to potential attacks. Black hole attack is one of the major types of attack that makes use of vulnerabilities of on-demand routing protocols such as Ad hoc On demand Distance Vector (AODV) protocol. In black hole attack malicious nodes pretend to be intermediate nodes of a route to some given destinations and drop any packet that subsequently goes through it. This paper has reviewed black hole attack detection and prevention techniques in AODV based Mobile Ad hoc networks, proposed by various authors.

Abstract

The present paper investigate the reflection and transmission characteristics of thermo-viscoelastic plane waves at liquid-solid interface. The liquid is chosen to be viscous and the solid half-space is homogeneous isotropic, thermally conducting viscoelastic. Classical (coupled) theory of linear thermo-viscoelasticity has been employed to investigate the characteristics of reflected and transmitted waves. Reflection and transmission coefficients are obtained for quasilongitudinal ( ) wave. The numerical computations of reflection and transmission coefficients are carried out for watercopper structure with the help of Gauss-elimination by using MATLAB software and the results have been presented graphically.

Abstract

The objective of this paper is to present different techniques of the fingerprint recognition. Two significant techniques Minutia based technique and the correlation based technique are reviewed. Both have their own significance. Minutia is working on specific part of the finger image called ridge and bifurcation. Correlation works on the gray level image data that extract from the finger image. Minutia based technique used different algorithm to extract the features and to check the accuracy and reduce the error rate. Ransac (random sample census) algorithm is tries to work on some random transformation and find the good one. Algorithm for local correlation based on the Markov random field modal which is used to smooth the orientation field. The main finding is to get the better authentication system with a better strength.

Abstract

A low cost protocol for in vitro propagation of Lilium cv. Toscana has been developed through incorporation of cost-effective media components. MS medium supplemented with 0.75 mg^-1 BAP (6-benzylaminopurine) and 0.5 mg^-1 NAA (α-naphthalene-acetic acid) was prepared with tapioca granules, table sugar and tap water in different combinations in place of agar-agar, sucrose and distilled water, respectively. Culture medium containing all the cost effective components was found to be the best for in vitro establishment of cultures yielding 6.00 bulblets per explant and medium supplemented with tapioca granules as cost effective component was found to be the best for in vitro multiplication of bulblets giving 3.70 bulblets per in vitro formed bulblet five weeks from third subculture. Tapioca supplemented MS medium containing 1 mg^-1 NAA was significantly better than all the other modified media giving 86.62% in vitro ischolar_maining, 2.86 average ischolar_main number and 4.60 cm average ischolar_main length. For hardening of in vitro ischolar_mained bulblets, coco peat, peat moss and coco peat in combination with peat moss were found to be at par giving 100% survival.
